Maldini served as the technical director of Milan from 2019 until June 2023, during which the club successfully secured key players such as Theo Hernandez, Rafael Leao, Olivier Giroud, and Mike Maignan, all crucial in winning the 2021/2022 Scudetto.
The iconic Italian defender tried to bring Messi to San Siro when the Argentine superstar’s contract with Barcelona expired in 2021. Financial troubles forced Barcelona to part ways with their prodigy, who then joined Paris Saint-Germain.
Messi’s stint at PSG was relatively short, lasting only two seasons. He later decided to move to Inter Miami in Major League Soccer in the United States after winning the 2022 World Cup with Argentina.
“We tried to bring Messi to Milan for 10 days, but then we realized it was impossible,” revealed Maldini, as reported by Football Italia.
“Now it’s too late, but players like Messi are a spectacle for everyone. When I heard the news that he might join Inter, I was frightened!” he added.
