Brazilian police took repressive actions before the match between the Samba team and Albiceleste on Wednesday (22/11/2023). Argentine players even approached the stands, with Emiliano Martinez preventing Brazilian police from striking supporters.

Led by Messi, Argentina then headed to the locker room, waiting for the situation to be under control before starting the game.

Rodrygo criticized Argentina for not immediately starting the match, deeming them hesitant. When they finally returned to the field, Messi was caught on camera approaching the Real Madrid player and uttering a few words.

“We are world champions, why are we hesitant? Don’t speak recklessly,” Messi reportedly said to Rodrygo, as reported by Tyc Sports.

Argentina secured a 1-0 victory over Brazil in the match, with Nicolas Otamendi’s goal determining the away team’s victory.

Messi revealed the reason for his reluctance to play. La Pulga was concerned about the families of Argentine supporters who were assaulted by Brazilian police.

“Of course, at first, it was very bad because we saw how they were beating people,” Messi said to Reuters.

“You think about the families, the people who are there, and we are more concerned about that than playing the game. At that point, the match is the second thing,” he added.
