The figure who was once touted as a wonderkid and the future of Portuguese football also stated that he would be on par with Lionel Messi and Ronaldo if he had the mindset of his former teammate.

The podcast containing Fabio Paim’s interview has since circulated widely. Cristiano Ronaldo, who was mentioned several times in Paim’s conversation, couldn’t help but comment.

“WTF,” wrote Cristiano Ronaldo in an Instagram post. “Who is this guy?”

Ronaldo’s comment quickly went viral as well. Especially considering that in the past, CR7 acknowledged Paim’s greatness from their interactions at Sporting.

When Cristiano Ronaldo joined Manchester United from Sporting in 2003, one of his comments left many people intrigued.

“If you think I’m great, just wait until you see Fabio Paim,” Ronaldo said at the time, as reported by talkSPORT.

Comparing Ronaldo’s current comment to his past remarks about Paim raises questions. Was Ronaldo seriously saying ‘WTF’ and rebuking Paim? Some also view CR7 as simply joking, pretending to be unaware of Paim, whose image has now changed significantly from the past.

Paim’s Words: ‘Asking’ for Ronaldo’s Ballon d’Or
In a podcast with PT Clipes, Fabio Paim acknowledged that his football career did not shine due to various wrong decisions and actions on his part.

“Cristiano Ronaldo should offer me one of his Ballon d’Or awards. I joined Sporting at the age of 7, I grew up there. It was the golden age where I won everything,” said Paim.

“I didn’t reach the pinnacle I should have achieved, but still marked a generation. I said earlier that I would be happy if Cristiano Ronaldo could offer me one of his Ballon d’Or awards. But I said that with humility. If I had half of Cristiano’s mindset, the competition wouldn’t just be between him and Messi.”

“The competition would be among me, him, and Messi, and maybe he (Ronaldo) wouldn’t have won as many Ballon d’Or awards as he has now. Maybe one of them would be mine,” he added.
