The incident took place as PSG visited Le Havre at Stade Oceane in the ongoing Ligue 1 on Sunday (3/12/2023). Donnarumma had to exit the field with only 10 minutes into the game.

The Italian international lifted his leg too high, resembling a kung fu move, while attempting to secure the ball from Le Havre’s forward Bradley Barcola. His action made contact with Barcola’s body, causing him to fall while holding his chest.

Referee Bastien Dechepy unhesitatingly brandished a red card for Gianluigi Donnarumma. PSG had to play with 10 men for a significant portion of the match.

Nevertheless, Les Parisiens remained unfazed. Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring for PSG in the 23rd minute, and Vitinha secured the second goal in the final two minutes, ensuring a 2-0 victory.

After the match, PSG coach Luis Enrique refused to criticize Donnarumma. Enrique stated that Donnarumma’s action was a consequence of defensive lapses.

“We certainly suffered in the early stages of the game. We played a very different game afterward,” said the Spanish coach, as quoted by Footmercato.

“Donnarumma? The defense made a mistake. We lacked focus; he tried to clear the ball, but the opposing forward was in front of him,” revealed Luis Enrique.
