Inter triumphed over Napoli at the Diego Maradona Stadium on Monday (4/12/2023) in the early hours WIB. Both teams played evenly for most of the first half before Hakan Calhanoglu broke the deadlock in the final two minutes.

Nicolo Barella extended the lead by finding the net after an hour, and Marcus Thuram completed Nerazzurri’s dominance with a goal in the 85th minute.

This victory practically propels Inter Milan back to the top of the Serie A standings. Inter has collected 35 points from 14 matches, leading by two points over Juventus, who slipped to second place.

Not only that, but La Beneamata also achieved a milestone that had last occurred almost five decades ago. According to Opta, this is the first time Inter has won at Napoli’s home with a minimum three-goal margin since their 3-0 victory there in 1977, or 46 years ago.

“Napoli is the reigning Serie A champion. They are a tough team, and it’s reasonable for us to come here and play a bit more defensively,” responded Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella to DAZN.

“We have shown that we have emerged, and we want to fight until the end.”

Inter Milan has won 11 out of their first 14 matches and has suffered only one defeat. Barella and his teammates remain unbeaten against their direct rivals, such as AC Milan (winning 5-1), Juventus (1-1), and now Napoli (winning 3-0).

“The season is still long. We know that a lot can happen. However, this season is still long,” emphasized Barella.
