In his debut season, Mourinho led Roma to the final of the UEFA Conference League 2021/2022. The Portuguese coach guided Giallorossi to become champions, ending a trophy drought that had persisted since 1961.
Mourinho returned to the final of a European competition with Roma last season. This time, Paulo Dybala and his teammates reached the final of the Europa League.
However, Roma and Mourinho had to settle for the runner-up position. They were defeated by Sevilla in a penalty shootout.
Now, Mourinho is challenged to take Roma to the final of a European competition for the third consecutive time, and he accepts the challenge.
“In the history of Roma, this is the first time the club has reached the final of Europe two times in a row. Imagine how difficult that is,” Mourinho said to TG1 as reported by Football Italia.
“If you look at those who can qualify three times in a row, you see some legendary teams. So I say: let’s try!”
AS Roma is currently participating in the Europa League. Romelu Lukaku and his teammates are in Group G and have a chance to advance to the next stage after finishing second in the standings.
