Manchester City Faces Potential Stripping of Titles – Former Player Reacts

Manchester City is on the verge of losing its titles and facing potential relegation due to allegations of violating financial regulations. The club is currently confronted with 115 charges of financial misconduct from the Premier League, spanning the period from 2009 to 2018.

The threat to Manchester City is considered substantial, especially considering that Everton, facing only one charge of exceeding financial thresholds, has recently received a 10-point deduction. Analysts speculate that if Manchester City is found guilty, they could be stripped of various titles, potentially even facing relegation. Such a scenario could result in their rivals benefiting by inheriting previously won titles.

Former Manchester City player Shaun Wright-Phillips believes it would be unjust to strip the club of previous titles based on off-field allegations.

“I don’t think it would be fair for Manchester City to be stripped of previous titles if they are found guilty of any charges. It’s not fair, and I don’t think other clubs would feel entitled to those trophies. They wouldn’t feel like they’ve earned them,” he stated, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

“Regardless of what happens off the field when those charges first came up, the team still has to be managed, and the players still have to perform as they did to win those titles.”

“Whatever happens off the field shouldn’t take away from anything the managers, players, and fans have done for the club. They are the reason why the club won what they won,” he added.
