Maverick Vinales emerged as the fastest rider in the qualifying session of MotoGP Valencia 2023, earning him the coveted pole position for the race. Francesco Bagnaia, one of his main rivals in the MotoGP 2023 season, secured the second position, while Jorge Martin settled for sixth place.

The qualifying session took place at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia on Saturday, November 25th. Several riders had to compete in Q1 to secure the top two positions and advance to Q2, where they would have a chance to chase after the pole position. Among the riders in Q1 were big names such as Alex Marquez, Franco Morbidelli, and Fabio Quartararo. However, the most intriguing presence in this session was Francesco ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia.

In MotoGP Valencia 2023, Bagnaia aimed to maintain his position at the top of the MotoGP 2023 championship standings in his quest for the championship title. Jorge Martin, on the other hand, was determined to dethrone him. In the final moments of Q1, Bagnaia delivered the best lap time of the session. He pushed the limits and set a lap record of 1 minute 29.054 seconds at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit.

Alex Marquez secured the second position in Q1, earning him a spot in Q2 for the MotoGP Valencia 2023 qualifying session. The tension between Martin and Bagnaia was palpable in Q2. As soon as Martin left the pit, Bagnaia swiftly followed suit, keeping a close eye on his rival’s every move.

At the beginning of Q2, Aleix Espargaro, Martin, and Brad Binder took turns setting the fastest lap times. Binder’s time of 1 minute 29.171 seconds temporarily placed him at the top of Q2. With five minutes remaining, Bagnaia suddenly unleashed a blistering lap time of 1 minute 29.167 seconds, propelling him to the top position in the MotoGP Valencia 2023 qualifying session.

Shortly after, he improved his time even further, clocking in at 1 minute 29.023 seconds. However, it was still not enough to secure the fastest time. Maverick Vinales recorded an impressive time of 1 minute 28.931 seconds, displacing Bagnaia from the top spot.

In another part of the circuit, Marc Marquez suffered a fall, prompting the yellow flag to be raised. Afterward, Bagnaia was seen entering the pit, indicating that he had completed his session, albeit not in the top position.
