The English coach revealed that this goal had a profound impact on the trajectory of the match.

England U-17 faced elimination from the U-17 World Cup after a 2-1 defeat against Uzbekistan U-17 in the Round of 16 clash at Jakarta International Stadium on Wednesday (22/11/2023).

Uzbekistan took an early lead through Amirbek Saidov in the 4th minute. The Three Lions managed to equalize with Joel Ndala’s goal in the 35th minute. However, Lazizbek Mirzae’s goal in the 67th minute ultimately secured the victory for Uzbekistan.

Despite dominating the game, England found themselves on the losing side. They maintained 61% possession compared to Uzbekistan’s 39%.

In terms of attacking play, England outperformed Uzbekistan with 20 attempts, 10 of which were on target. In contrast, Uzbekistan had 12 attempts with six on target.

England’s coach, Ryan Garry, expressed that Mirzae’s second goal, a splendid free-kick, completely shifted the momentum of the game. The goal occurred at a crucial moment when England was in control.

“After that goal, we continued to make several substitutions. We gained a lot of momentum, ball possession, penetrated the penalty area, and posed threats. We should have capitalized on that,” said Garry post-match.

“It was a tough match. Everything went well except for the result,” he added.
