Napoli clinched a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Atalanta in the 13th week of the Serie A this season. This marks Partenopei’s first triumph since Walter Mazzarri took the reins on November 14.

The clash at Gewiss Stadium, early Sunday morning (26/11/2023) WIB, saw Atalanta attempting their first shot on goal in the 22nd minute. However, Mario Pasalic’s header was expertly secured by Napoli’s goalkeeper, Pierluigi Gollini.

In a twist of fate, Napoli, with limited chances, took the lead in the 44th minute. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia neatly finished Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s cross with a header that eluded Atalanta’s goalkeeper, Marco Carnesecchi. The first half concluded with Napoli leading 1-0.

Atalanta surged back to level the score in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Ademola Lookman met Hans Hateboer’s cross with a header into the left corner, beyond Gollini’s reach. The score leveled at 1-1.

Despite Atalanta’s increased motivation following the equalizer, a crucial blunder in the 79th minute changed the course of the game. Carnesecchi’s mispass to Jens Cajuste resulted in Napoli’s counter-attack.

Victor Osimhen then delivered a pass to Eljif Elmas, who capitalized on the opportunity with a right-footed shot, restoring the away team’s lead to 2-1. This score held until the final whistle.

This triumph propels Napoli to third place in the Serie A standings with 24 points, while Atalanta remains in sixth place with 20 points.
