Chelsea triumphed 4-1 when they visited the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday (7/11/2023) in the ongoing Premier League. This thrilling match featured five disallowed goals and two red cards.
Tottenham initially took the lead through Dejan Kulusevski. Chelsea responded with two goals, both of which were disallowed. However, from the second disallowed goal, The Blues were awarded a penalty, which Cole Palmer successfully converted.
Chelsea then found themselves with an 11-9 player advantage from the 55th minute onwards, following the red cards shown to Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie. This numerical advantage provided Nicolas Jackson with the opportunity to shine and secure his hat-trick.
These three goals held significant meaning for the 22-year-old striker, who had faced difficulties since his arrival in the summer of last year. In his previous 12 appearances in all competitions, Jackson had only scored three goals.
Furthermore, at the beginning of last night’s match, Jackson had missed a golden opportunity inside Spurs’ penalty box. His shot in an open situation was still parried by Guglielmo Vicario.
“I think it’s about building his confidence. We know when a young striker arrives at a club like Chelsea, the challenge is massive,” stated Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino, as quoted by Metro.
“He is very young and comes from Spain, a different league, and he needs to adapt. I hope this hat-trick can make him play more relaxed and find the confidence he needs.”
“I’m happy for him because we know that when a striker doesn’t score, they suffer. So that’s what’s on people’s minds. He’s very young, joined this summer, and it’s not easy to play for Chelsea. There’s history, a track record of winning, and a history of lifting trophies,” he added.
