In their visit to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday (3/12/2023) night WIB, Tottenham took the lead in the sixth minute through Son Heung-min. However, the advantage was short-lived as Son scored an own goal just three minutes later.
Phil Foden turned the tables, putting City ahead 2-1 before Giovani Lo Celso equalized in the 69th minute. Jack Grealish briefly shattered Tottenham’s hopes by scoring a goal that saw City leading again 3-2.
Dejan Kuluseveski ultimately ensured Tottenham didn’t leave empty-handed with his goal in the 90th minute, bringing the game to a conclusion with a 3-3 score.
This marks City’s third consecutive draw, following the 4-4 draw with Chelsea and the 1-1 draw with Liverpool. City remains in third place in the Premier League standings with 30 points, three points behind Arsenal at the top.
As for Tottenham, the label of being the champion’s nemesis still holds. According to Opta, Tottenham has only lost once in their last five matches against the defending Premier League champions.
In the past three seasons, City has been the Premier League champion, and Tottenham has managed three wins and one draw. Tottenham has consistently proven to be a challenging opponent for City.
This draw also serves as a morale boost for the players after three consecutive defeats, marking their first point since defeating Crystal Palace 2-1 in October 2023.
“I’m pleased with the players’ performance because they deserve this reward. We didn’t perform as usual in the first half – Man City dominated us during that period. They wasted many chances, just like we did last week,” said Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglu, as quoted by BBC Sport.
“We performed better in the second half. They showed strong character, and it’s important to get the result. One point is a good reward.”
